This is a RARE Antique 1911 Curtiss Pusher Model D 92 Inch Long Wooden Airplane Propeller…As many of you know we have sold many many old wooden airplane propellers over the 20 plus years of eBay selling , but this one is very special and the earliest we have ever had…It measures 92 inches long and has the metal covered tips and both hub plates in place…In this listing I show a photo of a Model D aircraft as well as another example of a Model D propeller with the same hub ( see all 11 photos)…The propeller shows age wear, but overall is still nice and original especially when considering it is over 110 years old.

The 1911 Curtiss Model D (or frequently called “ Curtiss Pusher") was an early United States pusher aircraft with the engine and propeller behind the pilot's seat. It was among the first aircraft in the world to be built in any quantity, during an era of trial-and-error development and equally important parallel technical development in internal combustion engine technologies.

It is also one of the first aircraft considered and used by the U.S. Armed Forces and made the first takeoff from the deck of a ship (flown by Eugene B. Ely off the deck of USS Birmingham on November 14, 1910, near Hampton Roads, Virginia) and made the first landing aboard a ship (USS Pennsylvania) on January 18, 1911, near San Francisco, California.

The only markings are E 4 stamped into both hub plates which likely refers to its use with the Curtiss E -4 engine which was used on the Model D.

Many buy these old propellers for their beauty , others for there history. This one may lean more on the history side of the ledger, but what a great piece of early aviation history.
