A Big and Beautiful WWI Mahogany and Brass display propeller from Paragon of Baltimore, MD for the Navy Curtiss H-16 flying boat with the Liberty 12 engine in Excellent Condition.
This wonderful propeller features 10 laminations of Mahogany, nice brass tips, extensive engravings, beautiful wood grain and finish. The 8 bolt holes match the Liberty 12 engine (water-cooled V-12 cylinder making 375-450HP, one of the largest engines of WWI). The Navy anchor symbol shows military usage for WWI. We believe this propeller was manufactured around 1918-19. The Curtiss H-16 was a long range flying boat used for submarine patrol and coastal search and rescue. Paragon was a Baltimore based based propeller manufacturer that was one of the premier manufacturers during the war. This propeller is a fine example of their craftsmanship.
Engravings: 9 -8 X 5.00 P.P. (Paragon Propeller) 163 R.H. TYPE H-16 2485 (also a small square inspection stamp), Navy Anchor Symbol, F.C.R.
Condition: Very nice for a near 100 year old propeller. Never flown and still has the original shipping cork inserted into the mounting holes, brass tips with some cracking, no rot, minor delamination at the hub, a few scratches, wonderful wood grain, older refinish. Hard to find Flying Boat propellers from the WWI era in this nice of condition. This propeller displays beautifully.
Dimensions: Length 114" Hub Width 11 1/2" Hub thickness 7 3/8"
The aircraft pictured is a Curtiss H-16 with US Navy markings
A Wonderful Propeller from a Early Naval WWI aircraft for your Home, Office, Hangar or Collection. This would make an Excellent Gift and Christmas is coming soon!
